Gulf Coast Authority (GCA) is honored to recognize its Washburn Tunnel Wastewater Treatment Facility (WT) as the recipient of the Water Environment Association of Texas’ (WEAT) Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant of the Year Award for operational excellence in 2020. The award is for consistent outstanding performance of daily activities beyond the normal call of duty. The award will be presented at the annual WEAT meeting on March 25, 2021.
The Washburn Tunnel Facility is a previous recipient of this same award for 2017 performance. “When you have a whole team willing to go beyond the normal call of duty, it is wonderful to see those efforts recognized, especially by our colleagues in the wastewater industry”, said Scott Harris, Chief Operating Officer of GCA.
The Washburn Tunnel Facility is a regional wastewater treatment facility that treats wastewater from multiple industrial facilities, one municipality, and the Vince Bayou Receiving Station (VBRS) which accepts primarily septic tank and portable toilet wastewaters.
“An award of this caliber recognizes the highest achievement and effort of so many hardworking individuals to provide safe, reliable, cost-effective, and compliant services that protect the environment and support economic development.” said Liz Fazio Hale, General Manager/CEO of GCA. “This is a duty that is not taken lightly or without purpose.”
